Statewide “College Day Tour” schedule announced

College planning events to be held September 9 through October 29

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Representatives from West Virginia’s colleges and universities will hit the road next month as part of West Virginia’s annual “College Day Tour.” During the tour, college admissions and planning counselors, along with military service representatives, will set up displays and host informational workshops in every region of the state.

The West Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (WVACRAO) organizes the event and works to ensure that West Virginia’s high school students have an opportunity to get college planning information close to home. Additionally, representatives from the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV) attend every event to provide information on state-level financial aid. CFWV is a statewide outreach effort coordinated by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (Commission) in partnership with the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts.

“It’s an intense schedule and we’re on the road non-stop for eight weeks,” Travis Hinkle, an admissions counselor for West Liberty University and president-elect of WVACRAO said. “But it’s also one of the highlights of our year as admissions counselors. It’s a chance for us to get to know the students and our state — and to share information about the numerous opportunities our campuses and organizations offer.”

The College Day Tour kicks off in the Parkersburg area on September 9 and continues through October 29. Many events are hosted by area high schools as part of the regular school day. Additionally, some workshops are held in community centers or during the evenings so that parents, family members and adults who are interested in going to college can attend. A complete schedule is available online at West Virginia’s college and career-planning website, www.cfwv.com.

“The College Day Tour is a wonderful example of the spirit of collaboration we’ve worked to build to meet the diverse needs of our state’s students,” Dr. Paul Hill, Chancellor of the Commission, said. “College admissions and military service representatives across the state are working together to ensure that all students — in all corners of West Virginia — have access to information and resources to make informed decisions regarding their futures.”
