West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission seeks new members for Health Sciences Advisory Committee
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) is pleased to announce an opportunity for healthcare professionals, educators, workforce leaders, and community stakeholders to join the Health Sciences Division Advisory Committee, a statewide group that helps inform initiatives designed to strengthen West Virginia’s healthcare workforce and improve access to health professions education and training.
The Health Sciences Division Advisory Committee serves as a valuable resource for the Commission by providing expertise, guidance, and feedback on health sciences education, workforce development, and emerging healthcare needs throughout West Virginia. The committee brings together representatives from higher education, healthcare organizations, public health agencies, professional associations, and community partners to support collaborative solutions to workforce challenges.
“West Virginia’s healthcare workforce needs continue to evolve, and the insights provided by our advisory committee are critical to ensuring that our programs and initiatives remain responsive to those needs,” said Amanda McCarty, Senior Director of Health Sciences for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. “We are excited to welcome new voices and perspectives that can help us strengthen healthcare education pathways, support workforce development efforts, and ultimately improve health outcomes for communities across the state.”
The Commission is particularly interested in attracting individuals who bring diverse experiences and perspectives from across the healthcare continuum, including:
- Hospitals and health systems
- Rural and community healthcare organizations
- Public health agencies
- Behavioral health providers
- Emergency medical services (EMS)
- Long-term care organizations
- Health professions educators
- Workforce development organizations
- Community-based and nonprofit organizations
Committee members have the opportunity to contribute to discussions on healthcare workforce priorities, provide feedback on programs and initiatives, identify emerging trends and challenges, and help strengthen partnerships among education, healthcare, and community stakeholders.
The expansion of the advisory committee reflects the Commission’s commitment to fostering broad stakeholder engagement and ensuring that health sciences initiatives benefit from a wide range of expertise and experiences. By bringing together leaders from across the state, the committee helps support efforts to build a strong healthcare workforce pipeline and address critical workforce needs in West Virginia.
The application is open until September 30 and can be found here. The committee meets quarterly and members are asked to participate for at least two years.
